New breed R&B is a very broad church and ‘Sinner Not A Saint’ is a perfect example, even if it was cut by the unheralded (in black music circles) Trini Lopez. It swings like only the 60s could and conjures up sharp suits, mini skirts and gyratory dancing. The flip is the original songwriter’s take on a currently reactivated Northern Soul stormer by Jackie Payne, but performed by the more illustrious Johnny Copeland. It was recorded for US Kent but has only ever been out on CD or LP until now.- Ace Records
