Kelly may not be as well-known as some of his contemporaries, but he’s got a long career that includes stints working on soul for Motown and Atlantic – plus an even bigger resume of recordings for a variety of indie labels. A good deal of that work is presented here – in a collection that shows that Kelly’s got one heck of an ear for picking a great tune – especially the sort of tracks that balance strongly between Northern and sweet soul modes, with just the right elements of both! package also features notes on each artists included.
