Alphonse Mouzon – The Man Incognito CD (Soul Brother)

Drummer Alphonse Mouzon recorded this Jazz funk masterpiece in 1976 backed by an almost encyclopaedic cast of musicians. The Man incognito may refer to the appearance of George Duke under a pseudo name, whose funky keyboards is a highlight throughout. ‘Snake Walk’ is a great punchy jazz funk dancer with great horn stabs and a real standout. ‘New York City’, ‘Without a Reason’, ‘Mouzon Moves on’ and ‘Dance Your Troubles Away’ are jazz funk with a capitol F. The more atmospheric ‘Before You leave’ and the dynamic ‘Behind Your Mind’ add contrast to this lesser know but substantial album. – Soul Brother
