Robert Thomas – Salvation
The fourth release selected by SOUL CITY on their 2025 relaunched logo is another Northern Soul anthem that has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. It was originally known by Robert Thomas and rocked Wigan Casino in 1975 when it surfaced on Major Bill Smith’s Charay label out of Fort Worth Texas. Unknown to the scene at the time there was also an instrumental version attributed to the Men from Macon and a female take credited to Rita Lee. It later transpired that Rita Lee was actually a pseudonym for the bona fide artis Cresa Watson who’s original version of “Salvation”, also on Charay, is impossibly rare. Here, for the first time, both vocal original versions are presented back-to-back… only on SOUL CITY.
In association with Soul City Records founding partner, the British Ambassador of Soul, DAVID NATHAN
