The Voices Of East Harlem were an ensemble of vocalists who for Just Sunshine Records recorded two albums under the direction of Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield. “Wanted Dead Or Alive” is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after ‘Rare Groove’ track together with “Can You Feel It”. First recorded and released in 1974 both songs have hallmarks of a Leroy Hutson production. Hip Hop samples include “Beware” by El Eudge (“Wanted Dead or Alive”) and “U Can’t Check Me” by Penthouse Players Clique (“Can You Feel It”). “Wanted Dead Or Alive” has been one of the biggest rare groove tracks since the 80s, originals can fetch £50.
