Kent kicks off 2016 with a special project that will gladden the hearts of all lovers of Memphis soul and, in particular, those who collect the recordings made at McLemore Avenue, the home of Stax Records.
“The Other Side Of The Trax” brings together 24 Stax single sides from the “Blue” era never on CD before – and that, in most if not all cases, have not been available on vinyl since their appearance on 45 half a century ago.
Most of Stax’s top names of the era are featured at least once, with repertoire every bit as good as anything else they cut. Almost all the tracks are taken from Stax’s original production masters, apart from Johnnie Taylor’s Northern Soul favourite ‘Changes’ which makes both its CD and stereo debut here.
Copious illustrations (including a label scan of every featured 45) and the usual extensive annotation are guaranteed to help make this a ‘must buy’ for every Southern/Memphis Soul fan. – Ace Records
