The Mirwood label’s name has always been synonymous with stomping Northern Soul records in the UK, but this second volume of 24 tracks shows it was that and much more.
Starting off with the track that made the label’s name and financed much of the ensuing work, The Duck by Jackie Lee was the template for the “Mirwood Sound” and subsequent in-house, uptempo numbers were based on this classic Fred Smith production. The record was Mirwood’s biggest seller by a long way, but Mine Exclusively by the Olympics was a fair sized R&B hit and Bob & Earl’s Dancin’ Everywhere gained a similar chart position, though it sold for its ballad flip Baby, It’s Over – Ace Records
