FREDDIE CHAVEZ hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and still performs in local bars and clubs. He recorded his masterpiece “They’ll Never Know Why” in 1968 for Look Records, a division of Starday out of Nashville. It made little noise Stateside but went on to become one of the most popular floor fillers at Wigan Casino and just about every other venue at the time and since.

DAVE NEWMAN also recorded just one single for Look Records in ’68, “Make Up Your Mind”. The song was written by Freddie Chavez and would have made a wonderful follow up to “They’ll Never Know Why”. However, Newman does it justice and it did have its moment of fame on the UK Northern Soul scene but has yet to enjoy anthemic status.
