“Flowers” was released was released during the group’s heyday with Columbia Records and affiliated with Maurice White and his group Earth Wind & Fire. Both “Flowers” and the subsequent “Rejoice” achieved gold and platinum albums respectively, and still to come would be their biggest collaboration with “Boogie Wonderland” in 1979.
“Flowers” combines the full flavour of Earth Wind & Fire’s music power with exquisite vocals from the girls. “Me For You” was co-written by pianist Clarence McDonald, a Motown session player with Gladys Knight, The Jackson Five and Diana Ross who would co-produced “Best of My Love” with Maurice White the following year. “Special Part Of Me” was co-written by Deniece Williams, herself an artist recording with Maurice and Earth Wind & Fire who’d had considerable success with the song “Free”.
From all the songs on “Flowers”, the title track has become the most enduring and is regarded as a classic. The album is produced by Maurice While with the help of Charles Stepney, the late Chicago based musician/arranger who worked with Marlena Shaw, The Dells and Ramsey Lewis – Expansion
