A hard-to-find Hollywood recording that is currently shaking up the dance floors on the R&B, Popcorn and Northern Soul scene.

Released in 1962 “My Book”, coupled with “Lucky Is My Name” was the first of two 45s by Bruce Cloud for Herb Newman’s L.A. based Era label. The record failed to hit and Newman recycled the backing track for a novelty record, “Sales Pitch” by Tommy T and The Targets on his Big R subsidiary. Cloud was a former member of Billy Ward’s Dominoes but left the group in ‘62 to pursue a solo career. Not finding much success at Era he switched to neighboring Motif in 1963 and recorded two killer Northern Soul 45s: “Soul Mambo” and “Let Me Come Back Home” before ending up at Capitol where, in 1969, he scored his only LP, the very worthy California Soul. Falling disillusioned out of the record business Cloud murdered his wife and two year old son before committing suicide in 1971.
