The third and fourth albums from the pioneering Philadelphia sweet soul trio feature almost as many hits between them as do the first two (recently paired for reissue on CDKEND 287).

With the collaborative genius of Thom Bell, the Delfonics laid down the ground rules for all of the sweet soul harmony acts that followed in their wake – most notably the Moments, the Chi-Lites and the Stylistics (who also worked extensively with Bell). In doing so they created some of the finest records of their generation, several of which can be heard in this ‘twofer’.

Among the biggest hits featured here are the all time classic ‘Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)’, the oft-sampled ‘Trying To Make A Fool Of Me’, their last hit with Thom Bell ‘Over And Over’ and their first without him ‘Hey Love’.

Other notable chart successes that enhance this set include one of the two hit versions of ‘When You Get Right Down To It’, ‘Walk Right Up To The Sun’ and the title track of the second of the two albums featured here, ‘Tell Me This Is A Dream’.

These fantastic recordings were instrumental in helping to prepare the world for the massive success of “The Philly Sound” in the 1970s. They still sound as great as they ever did and it’s Kent’s pleasure to bring them to UK CD, in their original format, for the first time ever. – Ace Records
