Between the late 1950s and the mid-80s Chet Ivey released nearly 30 singles, covering styles from R&B to early electro soul. This CD covers his funk recordings from 1972 through to the mid-70s recording for labels associated with Al Sears.

This is the first compilation of his work; despite his prolific recording career, he is very much a mystery, with virtually no biographical details known, and hardly a mention in the trade publications of the day.

The music stretches from proto funk, JB-style grooves with ‘Get With The Geater’ to the disco-ish groove of ‘Dose Of Soul’. Many of these tunes have been big in the funk clubs and only obscurity has prevented some of the others from achieving the same success.

This CD is an important document which shows how locally successful musicians could carve a career for themselves, make great music yet leave barely a mark on the national consciousness.
