Two motown classics; The Isley Brothers’ flipside to ‘Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)’, ‘Why When Love Is Gone’ (written by Ivy Hunter) comes with a rollicking tamla backbeat and an anthemic fist punching heartbreaking chorus line. Released in ’67 in the UK, copies go for £40 on the original label.
The flipside features the previously unreleased on seven-inch ‘Can’t Hold Back The Feeling’ recorded in 1966 by the enigmatic Brenda Holloway. a string-driven slice of euphoric soul it features Brenda’s deep soulful croon (which hit big with ‘every little but hurts’) on an emphatic stomper.
