In 1971 the sound of black music radio changed forever when Frankie “Hollywood” Crocker assumed the drive-time show on New York’s WBLS radio. His infectious on-air rap would influence generations of jocks to come and local label boss’ Joe and Sylvia Robinson were quick to recognize Frankie’s importance. They cut him on the dreamy ballad “My Confession Of Love” which launched their Turbo imprint.
On the B-side was the throwaway instrumental track “Ton Of Dynamite” by the All Platinum house band the Mighty Magnificents. The track was a rework of their own “Funky 8 Corners” (also featured here) itself an homage to Archie Bells’ “Tighten Up”.
