Formed in 1968 by soul star William Bell and his manager Henry Wynn, PEACHTREE RECORDS were based in Atlanta and issued 20 highly acclaimed ‘southern soul’ singles, all of which are now highly treasured by soul fans and record collectors, especially in Europe and Japan. Many Peachtree tracks are also in heavy demand with ‘northern’ and ‘modern soul’ fans. This essential album features James Fountain, Mitty Collier, Emory & The Dynamics, Jimmy Church, Eddie Billups, Johnny Jones & The King Casuals and Peg Leg Moffett not to forget Susie Rainey’s amazing original version of “You Hurt So Good” and the previously unissued Gorgeous George track, “You Can’t Stop A Woman”.

Peachtree is a label soul collectors talk about in hushed and reverent tones, not just because of the rarity of the 45s that were issued but also because of the quality of the music. ‘Northern’ soul fans have their own Peachtree favourites, as do ‘deep’ soul enthusiasts and funk freaks. The Atlanta Soul album (GVCD 3009) contains the best and most sought-after Peachtree tracks – something for everybody to marvel at and enjoy. Many of the songs featured here haven’t been reissued since they were first pressed over thirty years ago and the inclusion of a stunning unissued cut by Gorgeous George is a welcome bonus. Music that would have cost you an arm and a leg to own is now easily available – good news for lovers of real soul everywhere.

PEACHTREE RECORDS was formed by soul star William Bell and his manager Henry Wynn who ran a booking agency called Supersonic Attractions. Wynn arranged for several of his artists to be warm-up acts on a 1968 Jackie Wilson tour but none of these artists had new records on the street at the time, and therefore nothing to sell at gigs. So Bell and Wynn decided to record these artists for their own record label – and Peachtree Records was born. Now, thirty-five years later, these wonderful recordings are still highly acclaimed by soul fans all over the world.- Grapevine
