This instalment  focuses on the best of the many great soul records that the label put out between 1962 and 1967.

UK Sue put out many different styles of music in its five year life span, but it’s probably better remembered for soul music than for anything else. (Indeed, the label’s first and last releases were all soul). Here are 25 of the finest 45s on the label, chosen by Kent Records’ Ady Croasdell for their quality rather than for their rarity (although it goes without saying that most of the original 45s are as rare as they are good).

As with Volumes 1 & 2 – and, for that matter, as with any Ace CD – the booklet is comprehensively annotated and handsomely illustrated with rare pix, label shots and correspondence from UK Sue HQ – much of which has never been seen publicly before. Mention of the UK Sue logo is still guaranteed to bring a big smile to the face, and warmth to the heart, of any UK R&B, Rock ‘n’ Roll or Soul Record collector. And the sales of the previous two volumes in this trilogy prove conclusively that the regard in which “The Little Label That Did” is held is by no means confined to the UK. – Ace Records
