Darrow Fletcher’s late 70s output consisted of only a handful of singles: two on the Crossover label and two via Crossover Productions on Atlantic and Atco. ‘Let’s Get Together’, ‘Honey Can I’ and ‘It’s No Mistake’ have all become in-demand modern soul dance discs, while Darrow’s version (here in an extended form) of ‘The Rising Cost Of Love’ is considered by many to be the best reading of this great song.
There was a complete LP scheduled for release on Crossover with the running order already established. This album was never issued, so it is presented here for the first time. Several other outstanding and fully finished recordings have also turned up in the Crossover vaults at Ray Charles’ old studios.
Highlights of the unissued tracks are the dancers ‘Love Is My Secret Weapon’ and ‘How Can You Live Without Love’, the ballads ‘And A Love Song’ and ‘People Are Not Wind-Up Toys’ and the funkier ‘Election Day’ and ‘Together’. – Ace Records
