Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles and New York, Brigette grew up immersed in an environment full of musical greats. Her mother, Paulette McWilliams had a 60s hit with ‘Bend Me Shape Me’ with the group Rufus and regularly toured and recorded with Quincy Jones and Luther Vandross. The music, energy and spirit of the scene at the time revealed secrets to her that captivated and absorbed Brigette, setting the scene for the sound she’s creating now.

Brigette studied law and thought this may be her eventual career before joining a girl group Flavor and signing with Universal Records. However her distinctively rich alto tones shortly landed her a solo deal with Virgin Records for two highly acclaimed albums.

After previously recording as Brigette McWilliams, she has now shortened her artist name becoming simply Brigette (she is married to Mark Romanek, the Hollywood film director responsible for films like ‘One Hour Photo’ and the music video to Michael and Janet Jackson’s ‘Scream’).

Today we see a new Brigette. Strident, confident and now signed to an independent label, she has the freedom to be much more involved creatively, producing outstanding songwriting, production and vocals – a quality rarely found in today’s music.

‘Starlight Lounge’ combines Brigette’s love of soul with jazz and a definitive Brazilian Bossa Nova underpinning, inviting legends such as Dori Cayammi and Hubert Laws to participate for the most authentic sound.

It includes what Steve Harvey describes as “Bossahop… more of an eclectic fusion of styles, using a Brazilian music feel for the foundation, but also using hip hop, jazz and dance influences – hopefully we created something slightly new.” - Expansion
