Innervision were originally a four-piece male harmony group from Detroit - Lonnie Turner, James
Nelson, Lloyd Ray Robinson and Norman Dixon. They came to prominence in 1974 when they were signed to
Johnny Powers’ Power House production company and released three singles.
They were typical of aspiring American vocal groups in the wake of Stevie Wonder’s landmark
LP of 1973 - Innervisions. The album had heralded a change in Black music with the emergence of the
synthesizer, the heavier funk bass lines and biting social commentary. Innervision embraced the new
sound and the spirit of the time writing and recording an eclectic mix of contemporary songs aided by
Detroit’s top session players, producers and studios. Commercial success evaded them and they
disbanded in 1978 but not before recording an albums worth of quality soul/funk/disco showcased
here for the first time.
This album will be of great interest to fans of Northern, Modern, Funk and quality Soul
music.
